A symbolic effect through out Zora Neale Hurston's book their Eyes Were Watching God was the pear tree. Under the pear tree Janie thought about everything from brown stems to virginity. After she gets up from under the pear tree she walks to the garden to get confirmation on the on he voice she heard she heard and in vision. Making her way around the garden she saw a kissed Mr. Taylor. Janie's grandmother saw them kissing. Then Janie's grandmother highly influenced them to get married.
